What it is

The Magna Torq type magnetic capping head uses internal magnet coupling to limit the static torque applied to the cap. Its great advantage over mechanical-clutch heads is continuous adjustment (rotating the magnets to the desired slip point), lower component wear and higher repeatability between heads on the same turret.

Gromar manufactures Magna Torq heads custom-built for integration into existing or new cappers. The head reference line must match the top edge of the housing — an essential adjustment to avoid cocked caps or under-application.

Typical applications

Soft drinks and beverages

28 mm PET caps (PCO 1810/1881) on high-speed lines, with critical CO₂ sealing and controlled torque batch after batch.

Mineral water

Consistent threading at high volume, without damage to the cap thread and with repeatability across turret heads.

Pharmaceutical

Repeatable, traceable torque where sealing is a regulatory requirement, meeting tight application tolerance.

OEM replacement and retrofit

Replacement of worn mechanical-clutch heads from drawings or samples, preserving the turret interface.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of the magnetic head over the mechanical-clutch head?

The magnetic coupling allows continuous torque adjustment (rotating the magnets to the desired slip point), instead of the discrete steps typical of mechanical clutches. Since there is no direct contact between clutch pads, internal wear is drastically lower and repeatability between heads on the same turret is higher — a critical factor on lines with tight torque tolerance.

What is the static torque range of the Gromar Magna Torq head?

Static torque operates in the 10 ± 2 in.lb range, with continuous adjustment within that window. Compatible vertical load goes from 20 to 40 lb. The chuck is designed for the specific cap type in use (28 mm PCO, 38 mm or special geometries). For torque ranges outside that window, we design on request.

Does Gromar supply heads for retrofitting older turrets?

Yes, we do retrofits per project. We replace worn mechanical-clutch heads with Magna Torq magnetic heads featuring the same mechanical interface as the original turret, preserving hub, chuck and working height. It is a typical alternative for older cappers that have lost torque repeatability and are producing cocked, loose or under-applied caps on line.

Is the magnetic head compatible with C.I.H. and Pick-Off systems?

Yes, both. We design the mechanical interface and vertical travel according to the capper system: Cap In Head (C.I.H.), where the cap is loaded into the head, and Pick-Off, where the head picks the cap before descending onto the bottle. The magnetic coupling works the same way in both systems — what changes is the chuck and the mounting bracket.

Does Gromar serve customers outside Brazil?

Yes. We manufacture in Piracicaba/SP (Brazil) and ship to customers throughout Brazil by specialized carriers. For critical replacements with a stopped line, we offer priority dispatch. We also serve international companies — for customers abroad, contact our sales team to arrange logistics and invoicing.

How do I request a magnetic capping head quote?

You can send the specification via WhatsApp at +55 19 9 8178-4916, through the form at /en/index.html#contato or by e-mail to orcamento@gromar.com.br with the technical drawing or a sample of the current head. Within 1 to 2 business days we reply with a detailed quote, lead time, materials and commercial terms. Include the capper brand, cap type and target torque.
